Take Me As I Am

I had originally borrowed a gray shirt of Lindy's as my last item...but I like this blue dress so much, and I have to give it back tomorrow, so I decided to wear it again! I love how versatile this little dress is...I really want a plain, jersey dress like it. That's the problem with loving patterns so much. You don't have a lot of simple things in your closet! Also, I went to work for the first time today (whoo!), which is why my post is so late for a Thursday. Love me as I am, guys.

On The Edgy Side

Today's outfit, it seems, is on the more "sleek/edgy" side. Today is the LAST DAY OF BORROWING, which is very sad. I'm so glad I got to borrow Abbie's clothes, and they were, honestly, so cute and so much fun to wear.

The last item I borrowed was her lace tights. I contemplated all week what to wear them with, because they're so fashion forward, and I had so many ideas on what to wear them with. I wanted something a little on the edgy side, so I pulled out my solid black dress, which has a cool assymetrical pattern on the front, and tested it out. Not only did it turn out amazing, It looked so much better than I thought. I'm so glad I borrowed Abbie's tights!

Also, did you notice, today's the last day of May? which means we're really close to being HALFWAY DONE?

Victory Curls

Somehow, I manage to have a long body and long legs, even though I'm only 5'7. Because of this, rompers don't really work on me. The shorts and the bodices are too short! Regardless, I like the way rompers look, and I wanted to borrow Lindy's to try it out. Rompers also strike me as a very 40s thing, so I attempted to do modern victory curls in my hair. However, the attempt failed miserably, so I just went with this vaguely retro style ;)

Bowtastic, Blingtastic.

Did I just make up my own words? Yes. It's day 6 of borrowing, which means we're almost done! This is a bittersweet fact- considering I absolutly love the things I borrowed from Abbie.

So, today's outfit has A LOT of two specific things; bows, and bling. Some of the pieces even have both. I borrowed Abbie's ivory tiered bow shirt, that is just SO cute. I originally had planned on making this a very simple outfit, but you know me... I like to add my accessories! I love bows, and everyone knows it. Since the shirt had a big bow on it, I thought, Why not just add some more bows! So, I added my bow necklace. Then it was too sparkly. So I added more bling to even it out. You could most certainly say, I got carried away really quickly.

I Just Did That

Oh, look! It's another oversized shirt! And it's pink!

Yeah, I'm still not entirely sure what going on with the pink ;) I went on an impromptu Avengers excursion last night and stayed up studying until one, so I'm pretty tired! Luckily, this day is pretty lazy, and I get to wear something nice and comfortable. And maybe it's the milkmaid braids, or the fact that it's summer, but to me this outfit feels really I-just-got-out-of-school-and-I'll-walk-around-the-mall-with-my-friends-if-I-want-to. Because that's definitely a thing. That I just made up.

Preparing for Paris

I love hats. I love all the different kinds, from fedora's to fascinators; cloche to beret. In about two weeks, I leave to go to Europe, and the first place we're going to is Paris. I've always wanted to go there, and I can't believe my dream is coming true.

One thing I think about when I think of Paris and France, is the typical " Artist painting a river while wearing a beret and a white and black stripped shirt" picture. As this is day five of borrowing week, I thought I'd borrow Abbie's beret that she wore on day four of the challenge. I know it's the Houston summer, but honestly, I don't care how hot it is. All that matters to me is how cute the outfit looks. I may have to keep the hat until we get back from the trip, because I am going to wear a beret, and look like a cute little french girl!

Pretty in Pink

It's day four of our borrowing week! Are you having fun seeing how we take each other's clothes and style them in our own ways?

Now, I know you may be thinking: WHAT IS ABBIE DOING WEARING THAT BRIGHT PINK DRESS?

Truth is, I don't know. I'm drawn to this color pink, but never in doses this big. But...I don't know. I always really liked this dress. When I borrowed it, I was a little worried I would end up hating the dress because it was so pink. I don't, though! I adore it, and I don't feel the least bit self-conscious or too girly because of the color.

Add Some Flare To It!

Today, it is now day 4? of our borrowing week. One of my favorite things in the whole world is lace. You've seen me wear all types of lace, in shirts in particular, but today, I borrowed Abbie's lace cardigan! The original outfit was a very summery outfit, with a light blue halter and rolled up jeans, but when you add a little black lace to it, the outfit has a lot more flare to it! I love flare. I love lace! I love texture! This is definatly one of my favorite borrows!

Also, Happy Memorial Day to all of you!

All Mine!

I've just decided that I'm stealing all of Lindy's clothes that I borrowed, because they're all so awesome and pretty and I LOVE THEM.

My outfit today actually looks a lot like something Lindy would wear - we have the hair flower, (her) shirt, skinny jeans, and high heels with bows on them, all in a nice, not uber-colorful conglomeration of neutrals. Normally, I change out of church clothes Sunday afternoons and put on something more comfortable, but I'm not gonna do that today. I like this outfit way too much!

Boy, Am I Lucky!

Okay, So borrowing day three! Yay! If any of you readers read where we get our clothes from, you may notice a lot of mine say "hand me down". Thats because a good friend of mine, last summer, gave me a lot of her clothes, because she didn't want them. Well, earlier this week, she was once again cleaning out her closet, and asked if I wanted her clothes. Because we can't buy any clothes, I thought, WHY NOT. So yesterday, I came home with 3 BIG bags of "new" clothes. This just made the challenge a LOT easier. This isn't being unfair, because I did not buy any clothes... they were given to me!

Anyways, onto today's outfit. I loved the brown Modcloth skirt Abbie has, and it was one of the first things I knew I wanted to borrow. I love high waisted, a-line skirts. Not to mention I'm wearing a "new" blue top with it. My favorite color combination. I am not a minimalist, like Abbie, but today seems pretty minimal.

Framed

Two days ago, I discovered that my grandpa had given my mom a camera tripod years and years ago. I've been wanting a tripod for a while (basically since I've been wanting a nice camera) to test out selfies. There was no one at home this morning, so I got the tripod out and took my own pictures. I was rushed, so this was also a little experiment in picture framing.

Even though I sometimes go really accessory-heavy, I'm a minimalist at heart. Today, for instance, I'm wearing a dress, a necklace, and shoes - and I love love love this outfit. I might have to steal this dress from Lindy! Not that I would ever dream of taking her favorite dress.

Ariel

I am extremly "white" today with this pretty dress I borrowed from Abbie. I LOVE the simplicity of it, and considering i'll be at work the majority of the day, and possibly with an open door, or a lot of walking, I thought it would be nice to have something airy. I feel like Ariel, once again, from the Little Mermaid. This warm, beachy dress, with wedges especially, makes me want to go to the beach and lay in the sand. The dark red hair is the perfect contrast to this outfit, and allows the dress to stand out a bit more:).  I really love this outfit!!

Feelin' Stylish

Like Lindy said, we borrowed different items from each other to have a little fun this week...it'll be interesting to see what we come up with! Today, I borrowed the green shirt and her oxford heels. If there's one thing I wish I had more of, it'd be oversized shirts like this. If there's another thing I wish I had more of, it'd be solid colored, jersey shirts. So obviously, I grabbed this one as fast as I could! I love the color - I don't have anything like it in my closet - and it's suuuuper comfortable. I love this whole outfit in general...I wish I could dress like this every day!

Day One All Over Again

Today, Abbie and I start our "borrowing" week. I asked for an assortment of things you will see later on this week, but I thought I'd start the week off with something Abbie wore the first day. This purple bow top is definitely a "Lindy" type shirt, and when I saw her on New Years Day, I told her I was definatly borrowing it in the future! I love wearing the color dark purple, especially, once again, with red lips. What a nice way to start off our week of borrowing!!

What's Up, Summer?

I went to my buddies' preschool graduation today, which was at the church next to their school. It was really cool getting to see them graduate kindergarten (they're so big!) and meet their families. Then, our group went to get Greek food for lunch - only the best kind!

I'm not really sure what possessed me to wear jeans today. We've had temperatures in the 90s all week - so I guess I should extend a formal welcome to summer. Hello. Nice to see you. You don't have to stay that long! :)

Military Chic??

Okay, so every time I wear these boots, I feel like I'm in the military. I love my lace up boots. This feeling of being in the military was heightened ths morning, by the fact that I was also wearing cargo pants. I consider this a "chic" and "stylish" way to be in the military, and think that the armed forces should consider my idea, and make it into military dress code! Also, the hair is tied back. I mean, you would definatly see me in the military now!

On another note, starting tomorrow, Abbie and I will be having a little fun! We decided that we're going to make this next week " borrowing week", and every day starting tomorrow through next friday, we're both going to wear something we borrowed from the other person. Do you think it will be fun seeing us in each others clothes you have seen time and time again?

I.Love.Polka.Dots

Well, it looks like Lindy and I both decided (separately) to talk about our favorite pattern today! As you probably know, I have a thing for polka dots. Like, a major thing for polka dots. I love them. They're awesome. End of story. Amen.

Anyway, when my aunt asked if I wanted this dress, I was like, "Yes, yes, yes, yes!" The bodice was a little too big, but this morning, I took it out of the alterations pile, pinned it, and sewed it up. It probably took all of fifteen minutes, and now I have this adorable dress! It definitely put me in a sewing mood...:)

I also decided it was high time to pull out this Raggedy Ann purse again. When put with this dress, it's just so awesomely playful...I wish I had somewhere to go today!

Paisley Print

If I had to choose a "favorite print", I would definatly choose paisley. I love the look of it, but I don't have anything that is paisley print, until now. Awhile ago, when my mom went to New Mexico, she went on an "all female" mud run in Arizona, called Kiss Me Dirty. The shirt that I'm wearing is the t-shirt she got back from it, but it doesn't look a lot like a t-shirt! Its much more of a regular shirt. It's got paisley print on it too, which I love, and it's great for the scaling heat wave we're just beginning to encounter.

Also, HELP! I know I haven't been as creative as usual lately, so message us at abbieandlindy0118@gmail.com and give us some ideas!  The hard part of the challenge is beginning!

Failed Attempt

I had a busy day of school today, which included taking my only final. Then, I was in the Montrose for two hours waiting to drive my brother home from rehearsal. I had planned to take my camera and get this really cool outfit picture somewhere in the Montrose, but that didn't happen, so you just get the standard front yard picture!

Almost Done

It has taken me until now to realize I still haven't blogged today! Well, all morning was spent trying to catch up and finish some schoolwork. I should be done by the end of next week, but until then, I've got a lot of work to do! When I think of school clothes, I think of plaid. Plaid shorts, plaid dresses, or plaid shirts even. Since I have such a yearning for summer, I added a little bit of a twist. The plaid dress represents my longing to finish school, but it's also strapless and summery, which represents the fact that i'm SO ready to be done and start my summer.

The Moccasin Dilemma

A few years ago, I wanted to get a pair of moccasins. So, when my family went on our annual Colorado trip, we found a store that sold Minnetonka moccasins. I had a very...interesting and unique sense of style as a child, and as I tried moccasins my fourteen-year-old self thought it would be a very good idea not to get the brown, loafer-style shoes as I had planned, but the powder blue Peter Pan types. I can assure you, it was an economically sound decision. I don't pull these shoes out of my closet much, and styling them can be tricky. They're cute, but I wish I had gone with my plan and not bought these on an impulse!

And I'm still looking for regular old brown moccasins :)

Return to Wonderland

So, the theme for the WHS prom I went to was "This Is Just A Dream", and was based on Alice and Wonderland. For some reason, the title didn't strike me as a title for a Wonderland themed prom. Now, onto the outfit. Today is just a relaxed day at home doing schoolwork, so I thought i'd wear my Prom t-shirt, to sport off the fact I went to prom this weekend! The shirt is the Johnny Depp version of Wonderland, not my favorite, but I thought it was cute, and couldn't help wearing my souvineer from prom!

Sew Happy

I made this dress about a year ago to wear to my cousin's rehearsal dinner. (Actually, their anniversary is the 29th, so it was exactly a year ago!) I picked up sewing about a year before that. It's such a useful skill to have, even if you only ever use it to mend buttons and seams. Plus, I like the fact that if I see something I want, but that's too expensive, I can just adapt it and sew it up for myself!

Prom Weekend!

WHAT a crazy weekend. It's sunday morning, and though exausted, last night was such an amazing night! Yesterday, the day was spent attending bridal showers, getting nails done, and then having my hair done and makeup done by a good friend of mine, Staci. I got to go to prom with one of my best friends, Caitlin, and it was so much fun to go with her! She is such a fun person to be around, and she sure can dance!

The Scheme of Things

I painted my nails purple last night, so I really wanted to wear something colorful and colorblock-ish to match them. I really like the whole color scheme of this outfit - blue and purple are two of my absolute favorite colors!

This dress, being strapless, does not stay up very well, so I wore a tank top, cardigan, AND belt to keep it from slipping. It worked pretty well, so maybe I'll be wearing this dress more in the future...

(I also just realized that the picture makes this outfit look a LOT like yesterday's. I promise that, aside from the sweater, they're completely different!)

So Wrong It's Right

Try as I might, I can't stay away from this dress. It's my favorite, and it's so versatile that I keep coming up with new ways to wear it! I've come to think of this as my substitute little black dress. I have an LBD, but it's a hand-me-down that's way too big, so until I alter it, I can't wear it.

The idea of mixing brown and black has always intrigued me - it looks so right in so wrong a way, and if you manage to get it right, it looks really good. Most of the times I've tried, it hasn't really worked (though I haven't tried that much), but I like to think I've successfully pulled it off with this outfit!

Dancer Legs

I've been taking dance every night for the entire week. Though i'm exausted and my legs feel like jello every morning, I can feel improvements. One wonderful advantage of being a dancer is having "dancer legs". Tomorrow I go to Prom, and I'm wearing those 5 inch wedges. When I put them on, my legs muscles automaticlly think i'm en pointe, and start working. This makes a giant calf muscle, that i've worked SO hard on, start to show. I know thats a little weird thinking of it that way, but lets just say, tomorrow for prom, my legs will be getting a workout!

Today's outfit is very chill. just something to wear around the house until I'm off to dance for 4 hours tonight. I love more relaxed house days.

The Posing Poser

I feel a little bit like a poser when I wear this shirt, because I've never actually seen Breakfast at Tiffany's. But I did get it for free, so it's not as bad as if I had just bought it.

Today was our last day volunteering at the preschool (sadface), which means that I don't have to wear exclusively kid-proof clothes on Thursdays anymore. Yay! Like I've said many times, I'm not usually a huge fan of shorts (unless they're my red ones), so Thursdays were kind of...blah. I didn't usually like what I was wearing. And yet, on non-Thursdays, I found perfectly cute ways to wear shorts. Anyway. On to the outfit!

Dress Grey's

You know how people have "dress blacks"? When the go to fancy places, or in some cases when you have to wear all black? Well, this is my "dress grey's" outfit. Other than the skirt and my shoes, all of this outfit is grey. I've got a very busy day ahead of me, and though I needed to wear something nice, I also wanted something somewhat comfy. That's the key word now... comfy, but dressy. :)These are my Dress Grey's!

Comfy Shorts Day

This morning, I woke up and started doing school in my pajamas. Then, I worked out. It wasn't until noon that I actually got dressed, and I was in a rush. So I went with my standard Nike shorts and threw a shirt on. Normally (now that I'm doing the blog), I try not to wear these shorts except on rehearsal/scout days. However, today, all of the shorts I put on felt wrong. And I just had to tell myself that sometimes, there are days when you just have to wear your most comfortable shorts. This was definitely one of those days! Despite the juxtaposition of the nice, girly top and the athletic shorts, I really like this outfit. It's just easy and laid back...which are two of my favorite adjectives.

Running Out of Time!

I took the AP exam this morning, once again, so i'm exausted. I have a very limited time to blog, so here it goes. The only difference between this outfit and the one in January is the pants. Instead of yellow pants, I went all "skinny jeans" on ya! I really wasn't up for dressing up all crazy, so very simple, very comfy.

Maiden Braids

Most days, I love dresses and skirts. They're all I want to wear. This morning, I did not feel like wearing a dress. That's a really weird thing for me - I hardly ever choose pants over skirts!

For some reason, my hair rejects the idea of maiden braids. I've tried them many, many times, and they've never worked. I think my hair is too thick - and just has a mind of its own. Whenever I try, the braid either isn't long enough or sticks out in weird places. I decided to try braids again this morning, and after many bobby pins, I succeeded in making a (thin) maiden braid! We'll see if I ever succeed again!

Green Shirts and Red Hair

I love wearing the color green. I love green eyes and red hair together, especially. Today, I'm feeling a little under the weather, so I decided to take it easy with an easy outfit. No one is really going to see this outfit, because I'll probably change into dance clothes for dance later, but I love the color of this shirt. I'm hiding it with a cardigan for now, but later on, I'll be bringing it out, and combining more "green shirt, red hair" combinations!

Colorfully Polished

I'm working at my mom's shop today, so I felt the need to look a little more...polished. See? I have a button up shirt and nice shorts on! I couldn't stay away from the color, though! This shirt belongs to my mom, and I've always really liked it. It almost looks like a printed chamray shirt (especially when you wear it with jeans) and goes with a lot because it's so colorful. I have several outfits made up with it already!

An Outfit of "New's"

This year, though only having to buy clothes  if I have to, I have had the chance to be given some stuff as gifts. This outfit I have on today, about 99% of it, I have bought or have been given at some point this year. I really like it though. I love combining black and brown in unexpected ways. As I like my muted colors, this is a great outfit for me.  It's summery, and here in H-Town, summer starts now, in May. I Love this outfit!!

Happy Mother's Day!

First of all, I would like to wish a happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful mothers out there, especially my own. She's an amazing mom!

I hurt my ankle on Thursday (nothing major, just a little pull) and didn't want to wear heels today, because I need to get better. I wore these, because at the moment they're my nicest pair of flats, and was surprised to find how much trouble they made finding a sweater to wear! I couldn't wear black, my navy and brown ones aren't nice enough for church, my beloved teal cardigan didn't go...So I wore this one. The stripes look a little funky with the lace on the dress, but the colors went well together and my mane of hair hid most of the neckline. It was also a nice little sweater to have in my church's freezing cold sanctuary!

Pandemonium

Hooray! I got a callback for the show I auditioned for yesterday! Hence, the title. Also, Happy Mother's Day to my own mom, who takes the majority of these pictures, including todays. That is only one of the many blessings she gives me as a person. Now, onto the outfit. Since my callback is for Spelling Bee, I decided to look a little "geeky", but not geeky. White is the famous color today. I'll probably end up changing my shoes, but for now, I need to break those wedges in before next weekend's prom!

Individualizing the Uniform

I've barely been home since 3:00 PM yesterday, so I've not had a chance to do my outfit post until, well, now. As you can probably tell, I had Venturing activities all day. If I have too many more all-day things, I'll have to think of creative ways to style this t-shirt! I'm running out of shorts to match it! That's the problem with having a uniform (ish) when you're doing a challenge like this ;)

And The Chance To Dance For You

One of my favorite lines from the song "Music and the Mirror" from the iconic musical, A Chorus Line, accuratly describes my mood today. Today is audition day for the summer shows at our theatre, and I feel more prepared than ever. I love the colors of this outfit, and it definatly brings out some of what I love in my outfits, and in my personality. I love blue, and though I'm not a big pink fan, It's a really pretty dress. I'm so excited and ready to audition!

AC is Cold

This is a very springy outfit, but I was lucky to wear it, because there aren't that many days here where you can comfortably wear jeans in May! Luckily, almost every Friday we go to La Madeleine (my mom has Bible study there), and the restaurant is always freezing. So on Fridays, if we go, I always need to take a jacket. Today, I decided to switch things up and wear jeans instead. It was actually a very nice spring outfit that was perfect for the frigid air conditioning.

A School Filled with Teenagers

What did I do this morning? I took the APUSH test. Usually, before we test, I have coffee... and that did not happen today. I was super tired, but I think I did a pretty good job! Since I went to school during real school hours today (I know, strange), I had to look somewhat decent. I didn't want to wear "ugly" test taking clothes, so I slipped on something appropriate to wear to school, and left the house at 6:30 AM.

Let's Make Like A Banana

I think I've said this before, but yellow and pink color combinations always, always remind me of banana splits. I also really like the way they look. (Speaking of weird combinations...) Lindy and I went to a luncheon (how fancy) for a medical mission that my grandparents are part of, so I got to dress up a bit more than I normally do on Thursdays! The necklace belonged to my dad's biological mom, who died when he was seven. Obviously, it's a very important piece of jewelry to me, but I've never worn it anywhere because the words pink and costume jewelry do not normally work their way into my wardrobe! Regardless, I love it, and I love having it.

P.S. Do you like my shoes? I'm wearing them to my best friend's debut in June and had to (somewhat) break them in before wearing them for four days straight. You won't be seeing them again until then, but afterwards - well, I will have a new favorite pair of shoes.

Fit and Flare

For the first time, in like a really long time, i'm wearing pants that have FLARE as opposed to skinny jeans. When I discovered skinny jeans last August, I loved them, and was reluctant to wear any pants that flared at the bottom. These nice pants are the exception, really. Today, I'm going with Abbie to a nice lunch at Hotel Zaza, and so I had to look relativly nice. I went for a more conservative look, because I thought it would be nice to have a little variation. I really like these pants, and I'm sure you'll be seeing them in future "nice" event days.

Homeschool Standards

I was feeling very minimalist today. Wednesdays are always laid back at our house, because it's the only day where we don't have anything scheduled. I also have a TON of reading to do for school (a least, by homeschool standards), and would have stayed in my pajamas if not for this blog!

Everyone Needs A Lazy Day

I definatly woke up late this morning. I definatly felt very un-creative this morning. I definatly was not up to creative juices. This is very un-like me! I'm usually crazy, and love coming up with new outfits, and new combinations of matching. But not today! Everyone, and I mean everyone, needs a lazy day. And since it's the last day of a long week of teching "Wizard" shows, I think today is the right day to be lazy. I wore this outfit, or something similar, last year, and decided that it was too "ordinary". Well, sometimes people can be ordiary on lazy days. For me, that day is today.

Serendipity

I don't know what it is, but every time I talk about how hot it's getting, a cold front has to blow through and make me look silly. I give up! :)

I have a few blue floral prints that all have orangey-pink colors in them, and as a result they all match this shirt. Like, really well. I've always liked stripes and florals together, but it can be so hard to make them match! Well, as per usual, I was mixing up clothes in my closet, and matched this shirt with the dress I wore yesterday. Lo and behold, it looked awesome. I tried it with this tank top today, and it also looked awesome. I love it when I can come up with weird combinations like this!

Combat Cutie

If you've been reading this blog long enough, you might know that I love my muted colors. I'm not the biggest fan of wearing bright, flashy colors, and much prefer darker, subtler colors. Today, even though I don't love this picture, I love this outfit. It brings together all my favorite muted colors into one outfit. Another cool thing, is wearing combat boots with black tights, to make the outfit less "dainty". Even if i'm wearing a dress, I'm no pretty pretty princess. I'm the Combat Cutie. Rough, tough, and all out glamorous.

Dog Days Are Coming

I'm afraid that the time to wear cardigans is running out, and that is a very depressing concept. You all know how much I love my cardigans, but it's way too hot to wear them in the summer! I'm really envious of people who live in places where 80 degrees is hot...Jeans and sweaters in the summer? Yes, please! Anyway, I came up with 14 outfits using my two favorite sundresses yesterday, which was really nice - I haven't been wearing them much, because (going back to yesterday's post) I didn't want to use them up too quickly. It's nice to know that I can fall back into my comfort zone whenever I need to now. I was missing this dress!

How To Form An Outfit Around A Pair Of Earrings

I felt like this was a "how to" type of post, in a way. About a week and a half ago, my grandma got back from a senior trip to Arizona, and brought me back these earrings. They're very "Native American" looking, with the colors being blues, purples, and oranges, but I thought it was time for a little "culture mixing". The shirt has a peacock feather on it, but it went very well with the earings, because it looks very similar (with the blue in the middle, and then strands hanging off the end). The pink also makes the earring colors stand out a bit more. And thats how you form an outfit around a pair of earrings! Search for common ground!
