Two Roads Diverged In A Yellow Wood

Today was an incredibly awesome day! We took my senior pictures this morning at one of our favorite RMNP spots, the Alluvial Fan. Then, this afternoon, we went on a hike. By hike, I mean: "We were originally supposed to walk about half a mile to an abandoned tea room that was super popular in the early 1900s. Then, my mom wanted to keep walking to a split in the path. Once we got to the divergent path, she decided she wanted to walk all the way up to Lily Lake, which was probably 1 or 1.5 miles up the road. When we reached the lake, my aunt decided that instead of following the trail back to our house, we should backwoods it across the mountains to our house. So we spent probably an hour and a half walking in the general direction of civilization without any trails to guide our way on the steep, gravelly face of the mountain." Luckily, the hike was incredibly fun and beautiful, so it was all worth it - but we're all exhausted and ready for dinner now!

When we decided to keep hiking to the lake, we had no idea how long the hike actually was. Not wanting to be stuck doing a long, tricky hike with no one else in sight, I protested, "Mom, we could be doing this hike for five minutes or three hours."

She replied, "We're almost done. I'm not going to hike for three hours."

The hike took us three hours.
