So Many Places, So Many Spaces.

So, I apoligize for my inability to post yesterday. I thought about posting last night, but honestly, I was definatly way too exausted. The past two days, we've had a total of about 10 hours of rehearsal and 14 hours of being at Miller Theatre for Spacing Rehearsals. Both Abbie and I are in a TON of numbers, So we're constantly changing shoes, picking up petticoats, or, in my case, using them as a "blanket" for when it got cold. But our spacing rehearsals are done, and next week begins tech week. That means a major lack of sleep for most public schoolers.

Rule Follower

So I have a little secret - if I wear an outfit that's undocumented, like my Sunday afternoon casual wear, it's usually an experiment that I plan to wear and take a picture of later. I wore a slightly more Texan version of this to see The Band Perry (the Texan part being my cowboy boots), and all day I've had the strangest fear that I've worn this outfit before - because I have! It's funny how quickly I got used to the idea of never wearing the exact same outfit twice. Now, it's subconsciously ingrained into my memory that if I wear an outfit again, I must be breaking some sort of rule.

One Day More

I didn't put this bright shirt on knowing it would be dark and gloomy all day, but the two make me look rather juxtaposed. Or cheery, whichever you prefer. This is just a simple outfit for a simple day: volunteering, school, cleaning, and our last rehearsal at HITS. Tomorrow, we go to Miller Outdoor Theatre! We actually went there last night for costume fittings, but we didn't get to to onstage, which is the REALLY exciting experience. So yeah. I'm excited!

I'm A Daddy's Girl!

A while back, our friend Mattie came up with the idea to use one of her dad's old dress shirts, and turn it into something new. I thought it was such a cute idea, I just didn't know how to potray it. Well yesterday, when we went to our costume fittings, I thought I'd try it. I LOVED what came out yesterday. It was super cute. So, this morning, I woke up and was like "I have to do it again!". I grabbed my dad's old pink dress shirt, my black braided belt, and BAM. Look how fashion forward this look is.

Ghost in the Machine

This is, without a doubt, the coolest shirt I own. My mom bought it in 1982 at The Police's Ghost in the Machine Concert Tour, when she was my age. On top of it being a vintage rock concert t-shirt, a few months ago my mom looked the shirt up on eBay. It's totally going for $175. I'd never sell it, but I like to know that I own something cool enough to be worth a collector's price.

Happy Wednesday!

When I was in Choir in 6-8th grade, my choir teacher used to say to us every Wednesday, Happy Hump Day! Along with that, we got a 5 minute massage. That was the life. Well, today's "Hump Day", and since I have an enormous amount of work to do, I thought I'd go pretty casual. I haven't worn any of it this year, except the shoes, and I don't know how often you'll see any of these pieces. The entire outfit is in my favorite color, blue, so thats a big plus. The bracelet I have on is also from Costa Rica, where my dad went two summers ago. I've been wanting to use it for a long time, but I just couldn't find an outfit to pair it with, until now.

It's A Dress, It's A Shirt, It's Superninja

This shirt is actually a dress, but I've been waiting to wear it as a shirt since the beginning of the year. I'm not sure how well it would work without the cardigan, because it has pouffy sleeves and a pouffy hem, but I'll probably try it again later this spring. I was kind of surprised how well the colors in the dress and cardigan worked together - the teal isn't in the dress, but they still go together like oreo cookies and their delicious cream filling.

My Version of the Spring Uniform

Abbie had a post not too long ago about how light tops and dark jeans would be the new "uniform" for spring. Well, I would certainly have to agree with her. Today's springy outfit is very much a "spring" outfit, because of the light top and the dark jeans. I've been waiting to wear this shirt. It's probably my favorite hand me down i've ever recieved from this friend of mine, who gave me half her closet last summer. The only thing I don't love, is the pink flowers on the shirt. Why couldn't they have been baby blue?

Hoorah Hand Me Down's!

When my mom has clothes to donate, she lets me rifle through them to see what I want to keep. She did this a couple of days ago, and I found some pretty good stuff in the mix! This shirt was one of the items. She's had it for years, and I've seen her wear it dozens of times, so it was a little weird putting it on. It fits well, though, so I got over that pretty quickly ;) Royal blue isn't a color I have in my closet at all, so it'll be nice having a little mix in there. I know I've done the cuffed jean thing a lot, but it's the transition from cool to Houston summer, so I'm trying to delay shorts as long as I can, but it's too hot for me to actually wear jeans. As far as I'm concerned, long live cuffs!

Finally, A Spring Outfit!

It certainly feels like spring outside, today! The almost- cloudless sky is a nice change, because I always like sunshine more than rain. I was very determined this morning to look like spring! This shirt i've had for years, but I love it. I really love the colors , because it's got my two favorite colors to match (brown and blue, if you haven't noticed) . Even though it's more of a fall shirt, I added a white lacy cami to make it more bright and fun!

Oh So Retro

Today I went for a very retro style (minus the hair, which I was too lazy/tired to do anything to). I came up with the idea for this outfit a few days ago and didn't want to put it in the reserve pile - I wanted to wear it immediately! So here it is. The scarf comes with the dress my mom wore to my parent's rehearsal dinner. I have the dress as well, but I don't like the way it looks on me, so I've regrettably never worn it. I love the scarf, though, and it gives this outfit just the right amount of spring.

Rehearsal on a Sunday?

So, today is one of our two sunday rehearsals. The other one was last week's. Since it is going to be a staggered, pretty relaxed cleaning rehearsal, I thought I'd go comfy. Of course i've still got the dance aspect, being as the first number we're cleaning is the ONLY true dance number in the show, but I wanted to add something very comfy to get me through the long day. And thats why my favorite comfy shirt has returned to the blog.

I'm Tired.

I have had very little sleep and very busy days the last seventy two hours. I got up at 6:30 this morning and drove to Camp Strake for the Mustang District Camporee, which I helped staff for about three hours. That's where this awesome shirt came from. It has a ninja on the back. Then I had rehearsal for five hours. Then we had dinner with my uncle. He's the awesome guy in the picture. I'm going to bed now.

And Once Again... We're Normal.

Today is just a usual Saturday. I've got work, and then a 5 hour rehearsal afterwards. It's pretty typical now. Our hair and makeup is back to normal today, unlike yesterday's post, where it was out of our usual normality (but still very cute, I must add). So, typical Saturday, work outfit. Very normal, for very unnormal people.

May the Odds Be Ever In Your Favor!

Double post again?!?!

Yep! Last night, Lindy and I went to the midnight premiere of the Hunger Games with my family and some friends. It was a lot of fun, and the movie was really enjoyable (and accurate, according to Lindy). Of course, since we are theatre kids and that was a midnight premiere, we had to dress up. For this movie, we went as Capitol citizens. If you haven't read the books, shame on you. Capitol citizens (citizens of the all-powerful capitol city of futuristic North America) dress in exuberant colors and make sure their hair is dyed to match. It was a lot of fun to come up with our costumes, and we got a lot of compliments and pictures taken of us.

Tonight, Tonight

THE HUNGER GAMES COMES OUT IN LESS THAN TWELVE HOURS I AM SO EXCITED.

So yeah. That's all I can really focus on. Tomorrow, Lindy and I will show you our awesome premiere costumes, but now you just get normal clothes ;) (Normal? What?! What is this?) Yep. After an extended absence in the laundry hamper, my favorite blue cardigan has returned and I'm making good use of it again, as seen in the two times I've worn it this week.

A Big Heart

I was given this big pendant, thats in the shape of a heart, as a hand me down. I just came across it last week and was told to use it. I love it, because its got lots of muted colored rocks, along with some colorful rocks. In a way, it represents my personality. I have a big heart, bigger than it should be, and I give it away easily. Anyways, on to the outfit. It's finally going to be warm enough to use this cardigan with my favorite colored cami. This is kind of an "in" look now, in our day and age, and I thought i'd give it a try. It looks really nice with my big pendant!

Gotta Love Free Clothes

I probably should have worn this outfit tomorrow, but I don't know how long this cool weather will last and I want to get as much use out of it as I can! I was missing this shirt - again with wanting to save things as long as possible - and decided it was high time I pull it out of the closet again. I got the shirt for Christmas, and started thinking that a brown leather bomber jacket would look really good with it...and then this challenge started, so I couldn't get the jacket! I'm making do with my black one, which I actually stole from my brother once he outgrew it at the age of ten. It's cut for a little boy, but I got it for free, so I can't really complain. But I can guarantee that one of the first things I'll be buying at the end of the year is a well-fitting pleather jacket.

Also, sorry the picture's so washed out!

Spring is Here?!

I know yesterday was the first day of spring, but for some reason, spring seems really early this year. It might be because of the blog, where I actually see what I wear on a daily basis, or it might be time. Time really does fly. It's crazy to think that Spring Break is already over, our big "Miller" show is almost here, and not that long from now, Abbie and I will be Seniors in high school. I hope spring drags out a little longer! I also find it a little crazy to think that it's March 21, and I can still wear a long sleeve shirt. This is only for one day, my friends, and I'm sure this weather won't last long!

Happy Spring!

It's spring! The season of colorful flowers, scads of adorable cartoon animals, and endlessly pleasant days. What better way to ring it in than a giant, tornado-inducing storm, right? I've been in a super dress mood lately - more than usual - so I'm trying to find as many ways to mix up my dresses as possible. I decided to celebrate spring by wearing one of my favorite sundresses, but I got to mix it up thanks to the cold front that blew through!

Back To That Metaphor....

Okay, so my post yesterday was about a metaphor comparing a ski lodge to my last day off. It's so funny, I decided to continue on with this crazy metaphor again today! A cold front came in early this morning, and I didn't know what the weather was going to bring. Turns out, it's a little (noticed I said a LITTLE) bit chilly. I thought, I'd bring out one of the last thicker shirts for the year. I love this shirt. Its one of the last shirts I bought before the year started, and its super cute. Now back to the metaphor. The shirt says "Je t'aime. If you know any french at all, you should know this means "I love you". Today, we're about to start climbing a mountain. Before you leave for a mountain climb, you would probably tell your family you love them, and "see you on the other side". Well, that's what i'm doing today. Je t'aime, blog world! See you on the other side!

I Don't Care if Monday's Blue

My aunt visited town for Spring Break, and I jokingly told her that if she wanted to, she could take me shopping. Well, a few days after that, I went out to lunch with her and my grandmother, and when we got in the car she gave me a little present. It was this skirt, which I absolutely love - and, better yet, I don't have anything like it in my closet! It's slightly longer in the back, which I find simply adorable, even if it's how every skirt and dress is made these days. Plus, it has a peacock feather pattern - and you know how much I like peacocks.

Sittin' In A Ski Lodge.

Our director for Ragtime, Joanne, always tells us "we're going to climb a mountain in this show". Well, today is the absolute LAST free day until we open the show. I feel like, in a metaphorical sense, i'm sitting in a ski lodge the day before we start climbing the mountain, to ski down. Keeping that in mind, I created a kind of "comfy cozy" outfit that's somewhat suited for the Houston heat.

Proper Little Church Girl?

I led worship in church this morning, so I obviously had to look more presentable than normal. I wore these tights on February 1st and then lost them until yesterday, when my mom dug them up out of the laundry basket. This meant, of course, that I had to wear them as soon as possible! This is the dress I got for the Hunger Games premiere, so you will be seeing it again on Friday - albeit in a much...wilder form.

Bride-Day

Happy Sunday, everyone! Today is a very special sunday here at the Hockaday household! Today, we are holding a Bridal Shower at my house for my cousin's fiance, who happens to be one of my best friend's older sister. I really like this outfit, because I'm such a girly girl, and I love dressing up for occasions like this. Our house got a "deep clean" Friday-Saturday, and the whole family, especially the girls, are pitching in to add a lot of little details to make this day special for the Bride, Kristina. I'm so excited for their wedding!

The Irish Texans

WHAT? Lindy and Abbie are doing a double post?!?! Yep! We went to the rodeo today and just got back to my (Abbie's) house. Since today was St. Patrick's Day, we obviously had to wear green. We embraced our Irish heritage and went to the rodeo (culture clash, much?) as proud Irish-Texans. There were thousands of green shirts and dresses in the sold-out crowd at Reliant Stadium, so we were not the only ones celebrating by wearing almost-obnoxious amounts of green.

The Perpetual Weekend

This is the first spring break in a long time (like...early elementary school long time) that my family hasn't gone anywhere. Most days, I sit around at home for a few hours and then go do something with friends or family. Almost everyday, I've thought, "Oh, tomorrow's Sunday." Then I realize that no, it is actually somewhere in between Monday and Friday. The lax schedule, lack of school, and the missing mountains in the skyline make it feel like every day is Saturday - I've been stuck in a perpetual weekend since break started! Of course, it's been a very nice perpetual weekend - I really needed not having anything to do - and I can't really believe it's already Friday. Where did my wonderful, long spring break go? Are we really diving back into life come Sunday?

The Band Perry!

Okay, so both Abbie and I were at the rodeo on Wednesday (though we went with seperate groups and didn't see eachother at all) and saw The Band Perry. Okay, So I LOVE this band. Their lyrics are like poetry. Kimberly Perry is incredibly inspirational and even brought up a little "church" during the concert. I got one of their t-shirts, but couldn't wear it yesterday cause I had work... and you don't wear t-shirts to work. Since today is going to be relativly relaxed, with only a family birthday lunch and cleaning the house, I thought i'd bring it out! This look with the t-shirt and skinnies is kind of "in" right now, at least I think.

The New Uniform

I have a feeling light tops with denim bottoms is going to become my new staple. I have lots of different variations on it, and you can add whatever accessories you want to change it up. Plus, I always feel super cute when I'm wearing something like this! When it's a nice temperature outside, like it was today, I just want to wear something easy, breezy (beautiful Covergirl), and comfortable. So expect to see me in something like this - but always different enough - a lot in the coming months.

Spring Break Workday #3: The Final Stretch!

Today is my last "all day" workday while my boss is out of town. I am so ready to be able to sleep in, especially after the Band Perry concert last night. I was looking for something casual, since it's like... 81 degrees outside, but still dressy enough to wear to work. I ended up finding this pink crop top with a hoodie, and adding heels to it. It's the final stretch, so I'm ready to do some working, and when I get home, I'll fall asleep faster than you can say "I'm Home".

It's Not Quite Midnight!

Sorry I'm posting this so late! I didn't get my picture taken until 4:00, then I had to get ready and leave for the rodeo by 4:30. I just got back from seeing The Band Perry with some friends, so this is the first opportunity I've had to post! I'm not super sure I like this outfit - either it's too basic or I feel like an American flag or I can't get over the pseudo-empire waisted shirt with the shorts - but whatever. The day's over. I never have to wear it again. It was inspired by an adorable outfit one of my favorite vloggers was wearing in her recent video - and it was just springy enough that I couldn't wear it in the summerime!

Spring Break Workday #2: Rodeo Fun!

In addition to going to work today, I am going to the rodeo afterwards! If you live in Houston... going to the rodeo is like "the thing to do" during spring break. I go every year, and this year is no exception. I get to see one of my favorite bands, The Band Perry, in concert too! If there is one thing I have a lot of, it's plaid button down shirts. Every Texan has at least one, and the best time to bring them out is during the rodeo! I got this one at Buffalo for 6 dollars for a costume in the winter. It was a good use of my money! I mean, a good quality shirt for 6 dollars? I think yes! The only thing I dont like about it, is that is orange.... I don't like orange... at all.

Like a Boss

I went paintballing for the first time today, and I learned that I am BOSS at not getting hit. We played for two and a half hours and I got shot twice - once on the top of my head, but the pellet didn't explode, and once on my leg, but it wasn't a kill shot and it only gave me a tiny bruise. My brother Austin, who finished The Hunger Games yesterday, likened our trip to the Games, and I decided I was Katniss Everdeen. Defensive strategy until an offensive one is needed, and only a few minor "wounds" inflicted. But, as you can imagine, the clothes you wear to paintballing are not terribly cute...and my shoes were caked in mud, so I'm barefoot in the picture.

Spring Break Workday #1

For the next 3 days, i'm going to have the most origional and creative titles for these posts.... "Spring Break Work Day #?". I work today, tomorrow AND thursday, so I don't really have too much of a spring break. I thought i'd pull out this summery dress I got in galveston about two years ago, but add some other pieces to make it more "springy". This is my result. I would say I like the dress.... just not particularly like this. Oh well. You gotta make sacrifices when you can't buy any clothes!

A Day In The Park

Abbie and I had quite the day today! We went to this ballet intensive, which was super fun but UNBELIEVIBLY exausting and painful, and then had a little photoshoot at Hermann Park. I had my outfit for ballet tailored to hide underneath my photoshoot outfit to save some time. Overall, besides the extreme pain in the feet, which I had to ice, today has been a pretty good day with my best friend:) My pic is just a sneak peek of our photoshoot pics today. Hope you enjoy!

Once Upon a Dream

I went to a ballet/pointe intensive for five hours today, so I am EXHAUSTED. My feet hurt really badly too! This picture was taken in the five seconds I was home in between the class and a photoshoot at Hermann Park with Lindy. My mother told me to strike a ballet pose...and I got distracted by a dog.

The Outfit No One Will See

So today is Sunday. Usually I have work, but today, I don't. I wanted to use today as a day to get rid of any outfit I wanted to. This shirt was handed down to me by one of my grandma's friends. As earlier stated, I do NOT like collared shirts. I also had no intention of really going anywhere since I didn't have work or rehearsal, so I thought i'd bring it out to say "Okay, I've worn this. Now I'll never wear it again!" So, exclusivly for blog readers, my outfit. Most people will never see me in this outfit. Thank god.

My Outfit for Today: March 11, 2012.

I sure hope you enjoy today's picture. My parents insisted I use a different pose.

Daylight Savings: Messing You Up Since 1895

Fun story: I had a recital today. And even though I'm posing at the piano, it was not a piano recital. For me, at least. I sang at a recital where most kids played piano - and when I say most, I mean 18.5 out of 20. One little girl sang and played - but I still stuck out a lot! Which, for me, is not usually a good thing unless I'm trying to aggravate someone or in a performance. The recital, I'm told, went well, but it was kind of a blur. Yesterday, my schedule was stuffed full and I was up from 6:45 - 12:30 - well, if you count daylight savings, 1:30 - and, as you can guess, I am VERY tired. I "overslept" thanks to aforementioned daylight savings, so I just threw something easy on this morning.

Street Cred

I took the SAT today. Yay. Not. It was really long! But, as I must do when I'm with a large group of teenagers, I wore one of my nerdfighter shirts. I gotta get my nerd cred! No one flashed me the gang sign, but I did catch a couple of stairs. I went (almost) straight from the test to rehearsal, so there wasn't much time to change - good thing the neccesary clothes were *almost* the same for rehearsal.

I Should Have Just Spent The Night Over There!

We had a late rehearsal last night at our theatre for Ragtime. And we have to go back this morning/afternoon. I don't even know why I bothered to go home! Today we have our lovely 5 hour rehearsal, so my idea was not to be cute. This is still my favorite thicker shirt/sweatshirt because it has Bambi on it. I love my Bambi! Since it's still rainy and super windy/chilly out, I thought i'd add a cute bright scarf along with it!

Lazy Day

Of course, the day after I write my soliloquy about summer coming and it being hot, the temperature drops below 60. That would happen to me. Anyway, when I got up this morning I started taking another SAT practice test, so I didn't really change out of my pajamas until noon. Of course, I have ballet at 3:30, so putting an actual outfit on would be kind of pointless. Thus, I have a leo and tights as my base, and just piled on clothes to make it look like streetwear. This skirt is so short I'm going to ask my dance teacher if I can use it as a dance skirt - the waistband is pulled down to my hips in the picture, and it's on the short side of a comfortable length. Tall girls don't like the short skirt trend!

My brother decided to crash our photoshoot and insisted I use one of the pictures he's in. Isn't he cute?

Comfy Casual

Okay, so this morning has not been the best morning all year, I can say. So, I was looking to wear something very comfy, and something casual, because i'm super set on having a good day! Also, I stepped outside this morning to very cool, chilly, wind struck weather, so I'm going to use these jackets and cardigans while I can. This blue top (that you can barely see) is like... super soft, and it's got this cool lacy design on the back, which you can't see because of my cardigan. I really like it! I can't wait to bring it out when the "real" spring arrives. This is also the T-Shirt I had planned on wearing yesterday, before my idea forfitted. Overall, Abbie and I only have our ballet class and designer run through today, so what we wear right now doesn't really affect our overall day. Comfy is definatly the key word.

Spring Is In the Air

As the seasons change, I find myself more inclined to wear things I didn't want to waste earlier, because the dog days are rolling in. Soon, the cuffed jeans will disappear entirely, and outfits like this - especially those with a springish vibe - will be out of the running until late fall. Or early fall, if I want to torture myself. It's almost too hot to wear this sweater - I can guarantee it won't last all day - but while I wear it, I have to remind myself that spring isn't even here yet, and I should use as many sweaters as I can before the true heat arrives.

Takin' One For The Team

Anyone who has known me for the past 3 years knows I usually have my hair pretty short. It wasn't until this summer did I decide to start growing it out. I haven't cut my hair since October, and my hair has grown out a lot! The straight hair is what made me realize this. I have never had my hair this long my entire life! I didn't just straighten my hair, I also added in some "fake" curls, as opposed to my normal crazy curls, and wanted to see what the end result was. I really like it!

On to my outfit.... I had no intention of looking this nice. I origionally planned to put my hair in a ponytail with a shirt, which was more like a t-shirt, and my fuzzy comfy boots. I got a call this morning from my dad asking me to fill a spot in for someone in the Academic World Quest competition. I accepted the offer, having won my team a lot of points in my freshman year when I competed. Goodbye T-Shirt plan! I had to find something else to wear. I will not be wearing this shirt all day, but since I haven't worn it yet, I thought i'd bring it out. :)

The Next Best Thing

Guess who took a practice SAT test today? Me. Guess who did not feel like dressing up and really wanted to be comfortable for said ridiculously long study session? Also me. If this blog didn't exist, I would have put on some Nikes or sweats and a t-shirt and been done with it. But as it happens, I can't let the blogosphere see me dressed like that (gasp) except on rehearsal days ;) The next best thing is a shirt like this, which is soft and comfortable and non-fussy, and my almost-jeggings skinny jeans.

Green, With Blue Outlines And Gold Specs

I LOVE my eyes. I hate to brag, but they're big, very bright, and probably my best feature. My eyes have a very specific decription: Green, with blue outlines and gold specs in the middle. Thats the way people describe them to me (except for the DPS. They just say GRN on my lisence).  They also come in handy  when I wear any shade of green or a teal. Today, My eyes really stand out with this teal shirt and teal flower. Teal is also my favorite color, along with sky blue and lavender. I got this shirt from a friend as a hand me down, and I really like it. The cut is very flattering with my jeans and boots! :)
